True Grit Is Snow Joke

We have been lucky with the weather so far this winter, nothing too extreme (fingers crossed this will continue). However, it's very unlikely we will miss out on snow or ice between now and the Spring.

As someone who ALWAYS seems to slip over even if there is only a hint of ice, I was really pleased today when  Malmesbury Town Council  posted the message below.

I have copied the post here as it has some useful hints and a link to Wiltshire Council's website re road gritting and snow clearance and with a map to show where this will happen.....

"You may have noticed new green salt / grit bins around town. The Town Council has purchased a dozen of these and they are in addition to the yellow bins which are provided by Wiltshire Council.

Both types of bin contain rock salt. This is provided for residents' use to treat roads and pavements when the need arises. Here are usage tips from Wiltshire Council:

  •          Salt is most effective when spread before the snow falls
  •          Clear snow before spreading salt. Adding a small amount of grit/sand to the salt is more effective during snow fall
  •          Spread salt thinly, just one tablespoon is enough to treat 1 square metre
  •          Attempt to create a safe route through a path / street, rather than clearing the full width of a road
  •          Beware of traffic, wear bright clothes and work with neighbours
  •          Do not spread salt in the rain - it will only wash away
  •          If a bin is empty, use table salt instead
Please use the salt responsibly and not for personal use. Please make sure bin lids are closed. If bins are empty, please advise the Town Hall.

There is more information from Wiltshire Council about road gritting and snow clearance here."

Breaking News - Make Simon our MP!

Our local Wiltshire Councillor SIMON KILLANE has announced that he wants to be a new kind of MP for North Wiltshire at the next General Election. This is fantastic news!

After the HUGE SUCCESS of 90% of 2,000 people voting for the Malmesbury Area Neighbourhood Plan in our Referendum - a project led by SIMON - I can only wish him the same success with his MP Campaign to be The People's Representative.

SIMON
is using CROWD FUNDING to support his campaign
and has said he will not accept any individual donation of more than £1,000 and his accounts will be transparent.

He says there should be NO LARGE DONATIONS and NO PARTY POLITICS for an MP who wants to really represent the wishes of local people.

Parking

I don't know anyone who doesn't have an opinion on parking in Malmesbury!

Wiltshire Council are currently consulting on a Car Park Review for Wiltshire including Malmesbury.

I attended a workshop on Tuesday along with other local people to discuss what we thought were the real issues re parking and what impact of car park charges were having on the town and parking. Essentially the revenue from the car parks must pay for maintenance and also apparently a contribution to the bus service.

Several scenarios were talked over including the first hour free option, until it was pointed out that a free car park was likely to mean a permanent traffic jam in Malmesbury High St.

Wiltshire Council have come up with options and there is a short simple multiple choice kind of page where anyone can put their view.

This is a great opportunity for people to have their say about the parking and the consultation closes on 16th January I believe, so still a fair whack of time.

So, click here to make your comment about parking in Malmesbury! Or search Parking Review Malmesbury on the the Wiltshire Council website - AND HAVE YOU SAY!
