Hot off the press today!
The Malmesbury Campus has been agreed in principle by the Wiltshire Council Cabinet! 11th November 2014
Cotswold House is the former youth centre in Malmesbury - In 2012, Wiltshire Council provided an indoor skateboard park that is attached at the rear of the building. Following the closure of the youth centre the use of the building has been reviewed including access to the Skate Board Park and the building it is now put forward as the Malmesbury Area Community Campus.
A refurbishment of the existing building will take place to provide flexible and more fit-for-purpose community space that could best meet local needs. Initial plans are likely to include a multi-purpose community space, a kitchen area, improved office space and hot desk and office facilities.

What is the Malmesbury Campus?
This is an important project which is currently taking place in the Malmesbury Community Area. Wiltshire Council have been rolling out a successful program of ‘Campuses’ in Wiltshire, known as the ‘Campus Project’ and it’s now our turn!
You may have heard about this already through the Malmesbury Area Board, or read about the ‘Campus’ work in other places, such as Melksham or Corsham. However, if you haven’t yet come across this , it refers to a process of reviewing services, community facilities and the buildings where they currently take place.
In some places, such as Melksham and Corsham, this may result in many services being housed together in a new building, in other areas it can mean better use of existing buildings. In our area, it is likely that existing buildings will be used perhaps with extensions.
However the facilities are for use by the whole of the Malmesbury Community Area and the aim of the Campus is to add value to the whole community. So, potentially a ‘campus’ could be a base for activities which perhaps aren’t individually sustainable in village locations, (for instance if only one or two people in a village wish to take part), but they are activities which could be organised for the whole of the Community Area, but in a central site.
Who is involved?
This review is led by Wiltshire Council through the Area Board, but is assisted by a working party of local community representatives and others known as the ‘Shadow Community Operations Board’, of which I am a member and the Chair.
It also involves liaison with other organisations, for example the Police and other community groups, as well as different departments within Wiltshire Council, such as ‘Leisure’ in respect of sports facilities.
